When are you Level 2?

You’re Level 2 – Beginner + when you’ve mastered the basics of kite control but haven’t hit the board just yet. That means you:

  • Have already taken at least one kitesurf lesson somewhere.
  • Can keep the kite steady in the wind window and fly it through the power zone.
  • Know how to do body drags.
  • Are (almost) ready to take the leap into your first waterstarts with the board.

In short: you’ve got the kite under control and feel confident in the water, so now it’s time for the next step – grabbing that board and going for your first waterstarts!

What will you learn?
And what does your course look like?

By the end of this week, you’ll be ready to hit the water on your own with your kite set. To make sure you progress as fast as possible, we teach with 1 instructor for a maximum of 2 students. You’ll be sharing a kite set throughout the week, so you can support each other and learn from one another. Kitesurfing can be pretty intense in the beginning, and it’s way more fun to experience it together. You’ll be coached by our certified top instructors – in your own language and from true kite professionals who’ve been riding the wind for over 10 years!

Learning to Kitesurf: Preparation & Expectations

Requirements

  • Basic kite control.
  • Swimming skills are required.

Duration of this Level

On average, it takes about 2–3 hours to complete Level 2 and move on to Level 3. With a full week of steady wind, many riders even make it all the way to Level 4 – riding independently on flat water!

Where’s the focus
get on the water with confidence

We’ll refresh the most important basics: controlling your kite, getting comfortable with your board – everything you need to ride with fun and confidence again. Our instructors guide you step by step, making sure you progress fast. You’ll be working on:

  • Learning how to set up and safely handle your kite, both on the beach and in the water.
  • Basic kite control on land and in the water: steering, power zones, and safety systems.
  • Body drag techniques to build confidence and understand the power of the wind.
  • Preparing for your first waterstarts: board positioning, balance, and riding those first meters.
  • How to fall safely, release your gear when needed, and always keep the right distance.
  • First exercises with the board: riding straight lines and building board control.
  • Getting insight into wind, tides, and spot awareness – the foundation for safe decisions on the water.
  • Understanding kitesurf etiquette: the rules on the water and respect for fellow kiters.

Goal of Level 2
You’ll refresh your skills, rebuild your confidence on the water, and be riding independently and safely in no time. That way, you’re ready to take the next step in your kitesurfing progression with a big smile and full stoke!

Milestones

Here are the milestones you’ll hit as a Level 2 kiter:

  • Independently set up, launch, and safely land your kite.
  • Gain full control of your kite in the wind window.
  • Master upwind and downwind body drags to recover your board or cover distance.
  • Make your very first waterstarts and ride short stretches in a straight line.
  • Develop basic board control – maybe even start riding upwind?
  • Build awareness of wind, safety systems, and spot etiquette.
  • Ride your first meters with control – and a big smile on your face.

The kitesurf roadmap during this course

Step by step to the next level!

Setting up your kite and gear check

Learn how to set up your kite and get to know all your gear – bar extensions, line lengths, different systems, kite types, and more.

Starting & Landing of your kite

Maybe the most important part of your training: learn to launch and land independently – safely, right on the beach.

Safety / self -rescue

We’ll explain the different safety systems, walk you through emergency scenarios, and give you a step-by-step plan so you can always keep yourself safe and in control.

Theory & Rules

What about right-of-way rules? How do you read the weather? Which kite size do you use in which wind strength? And what else should you keep in mind? Plenty to cover during our theory sessions together!

Kite control

You can never practice this enough – 80% of kitesurfing is kite control, and we put a lot of focus on this during the course.

Bodydragging

Upwind body dragging
What happens if you lose your board? No worries – you can safely reach your board or get back to shore by dragging upwind. It’s also a great way to practice flying the kite with just one hand.

Downwind body dragging
Get to know the power zone and steer your kite through the entire wind window to generate maximum power. A super fun exercise!

Spot analysis

Every kite spot is different, every forecast is unique. We’ll teach you what to look out for when you head out kiting on your own.

Herstarten van de kite

Bij harde wind is het makkelijk om je kite opnieuw op te starten, maar lukt het ook met minder wind?

Waterstart

If everything’s going well, it’s finally time for the waterstart! This is where we get you up on the board and riding.

Ride independend

Towards the end of the course, we focus a lot on independence. Sometimes we’ll let you practice on your own (together with the other student), so you can support each other and train independently.

FAQ

Didn’t find your question here? Get in touch with us!

What happens after 9 hours of lessons?

You’ll continue practicing independently with another kiter. At our destinations, the wind usually blows all day long, giving everyone plenty of time to spend hours out on the water.

Can I get my own kite after 9 hours of lessons?

Our packages are usually set up so that in the beginning you’ll share a kite with someone else. Why? Because in the early stages you can really help each other out and learn from one another. This way, you save valuable (and costly) lesson hours, since after 9 hours you’re often not fully independent yet. If we see that you’re progressing faster than the rest and there happens to be an extra kite set available, we’re more than happy to let you use it! Our goal is always to get everyone on the water as much as possible.

Want your own kite set after those 9 hours, and your instructor agrees you’re ready for it? Then you can get your own kite set for just €30/day extra.

Am I insured?

Do you follow the instructions of your instructor during our kite lessons? And does a kite get damaged during class? Then you’re covered by our insurance.
Not listening to the instructor? For example, if your instructor tells you to stay in a certain area but you keep pushing further out (we get it – it’s fun!), then you won’t be insured if you damage a kite.

We strongly recommend checking if your travel insurance covers extreme sports – it saves you a lot of hassle and disappointment on your trip. We also work together with Sportzeker, which means you’ll always be fully insured for everything!

Can I use the kite material unlimited?

In principle, yes – if your instructor decides the conditions are right for your level, you can grab and test all sizes of the latest gear.
