Kite
Paje is without a doubt the most stunning kite spot in our entire lineup. A massive lagoon with crystal-clear colors and warm water. With the right tide you can stand almost anywhere: at low tide it’s waist-deep and glassy flat – perfect for learning or practicing new tricks. At high tide it gets a bit choppier, but always delivers world-class kitesurfing conditions.
Weather & Wind
Zanzibar is famous for its reliable wind and tropical climate. The island has two main wind seasons: from December to March the Kaskazi (northeast trade wind) blows, and from June to September the Kusi (southeast trade wind). Both are powered by the steady trade winds over the Indian Ocean, delivering consistent conditions.
During the Kaskazi season the wind is usually lighter (around 12–18 knots), ideal for beginners and freeriders. In the Kusi season the wind tends to be stronger and more reliable (around 16–25 knots) – perfect for long sessions and downwinders.
The weather is warm year-round, with occasional tropical showers outside the main seasons. The water stays at a balmy 27–29 °C, so you’ll be kiting in just boardshorts or a bikini – the dream setup for your kitesurf holiday Zanzibar.

The Trip
Go with the flow
As a kitesurfer you live with the wind, the waves, and the tides. That’s exactly how our trips work too. You go with the flow. And with us, the flow is always… The Wind!
With us you step into a fully carefree program, where together with the locals we show you the real Zanzibar and Africa. Of course, it’s all about kiting: from downwinders over the magical reef to sessions on sandbanks in the middle of the Indian Ocean – sometimes with dolphins as your audience. But there’s plenty to do off the water too: sip coconuts in a reggae bar, join epic excursions on no-wind days, and discover the island in its purest way.
Every day we make a plan in the group chat based on the forecast. You decide whether to join the activities or just relax. In the evenings we come together for a delicious meal from our chef, play games, review the day’s footage, or dive into late-night conversations about life.
And don’t forget: Zanzibar is booming and quickly growing into the new Ibiza. So besides adventure and culture, expect parties you won’t forget anytime soon. Can you jump higher than a Masai?

Questions?
Got a question? We’ve picked out a few of the most frequently asked ones for you.
Which material do I need?
Always try to pack larger sizes and, if you have the choice, a larger board. The ideal kite set for an average weight of 75kg is a 15-12-9 m² with a 140 board. Skimboards, strapless boards, and foils are also perfect toys in Zanzibar! You can also always rent the latest CORE equipment from us if you always want to hit the water with the right size and don’t want to lug it around!
How is the wind?
The wind on Zanzibar is a hot topic in the kitesurfing world. The windy seasons are from June to September and from December to early March. Every season is different on Zanzibar. We’ve experienced seasons where you’re working hard every day on your 9m² kite, but also seasons where we had no wind for several days or only used large kites (14m²+). It’s still a sport dependent on Mother Nature, so go with the flow and you’ll have the kitesurfing holiday of a lifetime!
Do i need vaccinations
Make sure you have completed all vaccinations with your doctor. If you are coming from the EU, a yellow fever vaccination is not required, but it is if you are coming from other destinations. Regardless of the length of your stay, the following vaccinations are recommended for Tanzania: vaccination against DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, and polio), vaccination against hepatitis A (infectious jaundice), and a vaccination against yellow fever. If you have not had a measles vaccination, an MMR vaccination is recommended for Tanzania. Tip: Make an appointment with your local Municipal Health Service (GGD) or GP in a timely manner (some vaccinations take a week to become effective). More information can be found at http://www.vaccinatiesopreis.nl/inentingen-tanzania/
Do I need an VISA?
Yes, but you have to buy this at the airport for $50. So always make sure you have enough dollars with you when you arrive at the airport. This will save you a lot of time.
What about flights
We don’t arrange flights; we mainly advise you on which flight is best for you! You fly to Stone Town, Zanzibar City (ZNZ). After landing, it’s another hour’s drive to the final destination, Paje. Tui flies direct for good prices; don’t forget to check via Brussels, as that can make a big difference. We also recommend Skyscanner to check your best flight. Would you rather have KiteActive take care of everything? No problem. Enter your dates, budget, etc., and preferences (travel time, legroom, transfers) by email, and we’ll book the best flight for you for a €50 booking fee.
What is there to explore more?
Besides kitesurfing, Paje is a perfect place to learn to dive or just relax on the beach. In the evenings, you can always enjoy drinks with fellow kitesurfers at one of the local bars. For example, every Friday night there’s a big beach party at the Jambo bar, and fun parties are regularly held at the nearby resorts. There are plenty of activities and things to see on the island. Our team will make sure you won’t be bored 🙂
