Book: https://www.airfrance.nl

Via Lisbon (LIS) – TAP Air Portugal
Route: Amsterdam → Lisbon → Fortaleza

When to book
• Ideal booking window: 8 months before departure
• For October: book between February and June
• For November: book between March and September
• Booking less than 6–7 weeks ahead = often more expensive
• Midweek departures are usually cheaper than weekends

What to expect price-wise (return, economy)
• Good deals: ± €600 – €700
• Most common: ± €750 – €1,000
• Late or inconvenient booking: €1,000+

Boardbag & kite gear – comparison
Air France
• Boardbag = sports equipment
• Max weight: usually 23 kg
• Cost: depends on ticket type (sometimes included, sometimes extra)
• Long boardbags may require pre-registration

TAP Air Portugal
• A small kite set can sometimes fit within standard checked baggage
• Long boardbags are usually “large sports equipment”

Practical advice

• Arrange baggage at the time of booking — last-minute additions can be sold out

Eat

Downwinding in Brazil isn’t just a kitesurf adventure — it’s a culinary trip too. Along the coast you taste the pure flavors of Brazilian cuisine: fresh fish often pulled from the sea that same morning, and simple but full-on meals with rice, beans, and tropical veggies.

Need a reset? There’s always something on the route: an ice-cold coconut straight from the shell, or a stop at one of the cozy beach bars. That’s where Brazil’s most famous cocktail is waiting — the Caipirinha — perfect to close out a day of wind, waves, and sun.

And during the downwinders, the KiteActive crew keeps you fueled with snacks and drinks on the way, so your energy stays high until the next stop.

Kite

Explore the full Brazilian coastline with your kite! A 4×4-supported adventure through Brazil’s kitesurf landscape. Below you’ll find all the info about the special places you’ll discover on this trip — a true kite holiday Brazil experience.

The Explore – 11 days

Start dates 2026: 18 Oct | 4 Nov | 5 Nov | 18 Nov | 22 Nov

The Explore Downwinder in Brazil is perfect for riders who are new to downwinding. The stages are short, and our 4×4 jeep drives along the beach almost everywhere — so taking a break or hopping in is always an option. On the way you get the best of the Brazilian coast: powerful waves, unreal nature, and the cherry on top — Jericoacoara’s party vibes. We’ve been running this trip for over 15 years, every winter, and it’s always an adventure you’ll never forget!

Kitefest Baeleia – 11 days

Start dates 2026: 25 Oct | 26 Oct

The route is the same as the Explore.

What makes this trip unique is the mega kitesurf festival in Baleia we host for the entire kite community in Brazil at that time. Expect shared sessions on the water, strong beach vibes, music, and an energy you only feel when everything clicks into place.

The trip

Go with the flow

As a kitesurfer, you live with the wind — you move when the waves and tides line up. That’s exactly how we travel too. You go with the flow. And our flow is… The Wind!

Want a day-by-day overview of each downwinder? Get in touch by email and we’ll inform you as clearly as possible!

If you want, we can pick you up from Fortaleza airport. Let us know in advance and share your flight details in time!

For the Explore, Adventure & XXL downwinders in Brazil, you can check in to our KiteActive pousada on the day the downwinder starts. We spend 1 night together in Cumbuco to meet the group and do our first downwinder. The next morning, we ride toward our final destination.

PLEASE NOTE: If you want to stay extra nights with us in Cumbuco (or Jericoacoara), please contact us and ask about the options.
