Below you’ll find a practical packing list for Brazil (Fortaleza / Cumbuco region).
Expect warm temperatures, lots of sun and wind, and (depending on your plans) beach days, downwinders, and trips.
This list is tuned for kitesurfing, travel, and everyday comfort.
Travel documents and money
- Passport (check validity and any visa/entry requirements)
- Flight and booking info (digital + optionally printed)
- Travel insurance (preferably with kitesurfing coverage)
- Health insurance card / EHIC (if relevant) and policy numbers

Kitesurf equipment
- Kites (tip: multiple sizes depending on your weight and wind range)
- Bar + lines (and a spare parts set if you have one)
- Board (tip: check pads/straps) + spare fins/screws

- Leash (board leash only if you use it consciously and safely)
- Helmet and impact vest (recommended, especially for downwinders)

The Explore Downwinder in Brazil is perfect for riders who are new to downwinding. The stages are short, and our 4×4 jeep drives along the beach almost everywhere — so taking a break or hopping in is always an option. On the way you get the best of the Brazilian coast: powerful waves, unreal nature, and the cherry on top — Jericoacoara’s party vibes. We’ve been running this trip for over 15 years, every winter, and it’s always an adventure you’ll never forget!
Kitefest Baeleia – 11 days

The route is the same as the Explore.
What makes this trip unique is the mega kitesurf festival in Baleia we host for the entire kite community in Brazil at that time. Expect shared sessions on the water, strong beach vibes, music, and an energy you only feel when everything clicks into place.

For the Explore, Adventure & XXL downwinders in Brazil, you can check in to our KiteActive pousada on the day the downwinder starts. We spend 1 night together in Cumbuco to meet the group and do our first downwinder. The next morning, we ride toward our final destination.
PLEASE NOTE: If you want to stay extra nights with us in Cumbuco (or Jericoacoara), please contact us and ask about the options.

Welcome to Brazil. Upon arrival at Windtown Cumbuco you’re welcome at the hotel from 09:00, with rooms available from 13:00. Arriving earlier? You can safely leave your luggage at reception while you relax or explore the surroundings.
This first part of the day is perfect to land easy, meet the other riders, and get into the vibe. Later, we host the first skippers meeting — sharing key info about planning, safety, and the days ahead.

The jeeps depart from Jericoacoara around 09:00 in the morning. After about three hours of driving, you’ll be back in Cumbuco.

Which material to bring?
The wind always blows at least 16 knots and often even harder, around 20 knots. In the afternoon, the wind sometimes drops a bit, so it’s also a good idea to bring larger sizes. The golden rule: bring all the wing sizes you have!
What is the level?
All our downwinders require a minimum level of 4. You must be an independent and confident kitesurfer who can manage on your own.
Is this trip for beginners?
Absolutely, one of the very best destinations to learn kitesurfing thanks to the private lagoon that is always calm and undiscovered!
Can I make my first downwinders?
Certainly, this trip is especially designed for people who want to start downwinding or improve their skills!
Recommended flights?
From Europe, KLM or FlyTAP are good options. It will roughly cost you between €800 and €1200 round-trip.
How is the group?
Our groups consist of enthusiastic kiters aged 25 to 65. This trip is designed for experienced kiters, so you’ll always travel with like-minded people who share the same passion. More and more women are joining our trips, and we strive for a good 50/50 gender split.
