Eat

Food and drinks are a big part of your journey. During our Downwinders in Africa we stop along the way at the best local spots, where African cuisine shines with fresh fruits, pure flavors, and spicy herbs. The fish often comes straight from the ocean onto your plate. It ranges from a simple, authentic lunch in the middle of nowhere to a delicious fine-dining experience together at one of our accommodations. You don’t have to worry about a thing — hakuna matata — everything is taken care of for you!

Sleep

During our Downwinders Africa in Kenya, we’ve carefully selected the most stunning hotels along the way. Whenever possible, we stay right at the spot so you can enjoy true kite in, kite out living.

All accommodations come with air conditioning, and most feature a refreshing pool and a lounge area — perfect for unwinding in your hammock after a long day on the water. Expect warm African hospitality, pure joy, and radiant smiles everywhere you go.

Along the way, you’ll stay in these accommodations

Kite

Kitesurfing in Kenya is a dream come true. During our Downwinders you’ll ride past iconic spots like Diani Beach and the magical archipelago. You’ll cruise through a delta with endless sandbanks and glassy flat water, and score the cleanest waves at the reef.

Surfing in Africa is breathtakingly beautiful and feels nothing short of magical. With warm water and the sun on your skin, you can’t help but feel like the happiest person on earth. 🌞🌊🪁

Weather & Wind

Kenya is blessed with two constant trade winds that deliver perfect kite conditions all year round. From December to March, the Kaskazi blows — a steady northeasterly wind that brings warm, sunny days and ideal conditions for long downwinders. From June to September, the Kusi arrives — a powerful southerly wind that lights up the ocean with clean reef waves and glassy flat water in the sheltered lagoons.

Thanks to the tropical climate, it’s always warm here: you’ll kite in just your boardshorts or bikini. With an average of 15–25 knots of wind and plenty of sunshine, every session feels like a dream. Whether you’re chasing flat water for freestyle or long rides over ocean swells, the wind in Kenya rarely disappoints. 🌬️🌞🌊
