Kite
Lo Stagnone is the kitespot of Europe. A huge lagoon with mirror-flat water—perfect to learn kitesurfing, become fully independent, or push new tricks. You can stand almost everywhere, which makes it feel safe, relaxed and accessible.
All around you is pure nature, small islands and a vibe you won’t find anywhere else. Add the iconic Sicilian sunsets, a lap around the island on your kite, and the near-daily Maestrale and Sirocco winds. See you there?

Weather and wind
In Lo Stagnone it blows almost every day. The spot benefits from a strong thermal sea breeze. The shallow, fast-warming lagoon water and the cooler sea create consistent wind, further boosted by the Venturi effect between the islands.
The most common winds are Maestrale (NW) and Tramontana (N) — steady and ideal for kiting. From late morning (usually around 12:00–13:00) the wind kicks in and stays strong through sunset. In season, you can count on 70–80% windy days with an average of 14–20 knots.
And there’s more: you can safely add 6–8 knots to most forecasts because the thermals here aren’t captured by the models. Best of all? It’s pleasantly warm day and night — you can kite until mid-September in just your swim shorts or bikini.
The trip
Go with the flow
During the Sicilian Kite Dream, everything revolves around one thing: the flow. As a kitesurfer you live with the wind—you go when the conditions are good, you get carried by waves and tide. That’s exactly how our trips work too: spontaneous, free and full of energy. With us, the flow is… The Wind!
What can you expect?
- A huge lagoon with flat water — the ideal place to learn kitesurfing and make your first meters. It’s also perfect for learning new tricks.
- Downwinders along the coast and trick clinics with experienced kiters to take you to the next level.
- Amazing Sicilian food, from fresh pasta to local wines.
- Excursions that complete your trip: a boat tour to the island of Favignana, a sunset wine tasting, or strolling through medieval Erice.
- And of course: fun parties with the crew, because making memories together is just as important as the kiting itself.
This kite camp is the place to level up, meet new people, and above all enjoy the vibe. Everything revolves around the wind—and that’s what makes the adventure magical.
What do we do when we’re not on the water?
There’s always something going on. But maybe you also want to do absolutely nothing sometimes? No problem! We’re always active! That means if there’s no wind, we’ll offer an alternative program and interesting theory sessions to expand your kite knowledge.
Below you’ll find an overview of activities you can do when it’s not windy
Questions?
Got a question? We’ve selected a few frequently asked questions for you.
Wind & Kite material
The average wind speed is between 14 and 20 knots. So bring all your kite sizes, but if you have a choice, go for larger kites rather than smaller ones! You can also leave your foil at home or just use a short mast. The water is knee-deep throughout the lagoon.
How to get there?
It’s about a 2.5-hour flight. The best flight is with Ryanair from Duzzeldorf (Weeze) to Trapani. From Trapani, it’s a 10-minute drive. There are also excellent flights from Brussels to Trapani.
Some people choose to drive and take the ferry from Genoa!
How is nightlife?
Amazing – you shouldn’t compare it to Ibiza, but there’s a great club in the capital and endless beach bars hosting awesome theme parties. So don’t forget your trendy outfit!
How is the group?
Our groups can range from young to old and are often evenly split between men and women. The group usually consists of people between 25 and 40 years old, with some exceptions, of course. We teach beginners and offer tips for advanced kitesurfers, so you can expect all levels of experience with us. We also often offer group activities that you can participate in without obligation. On some trips, you may share a large room with other KiteActive guests, but this will be indicated.
Do I need a car or scooter?
Want to be extra mobile and venture out on your own occasionally? Then a rental car is definitely a good idea.
